I don't know this, but it's probably worth a punt for around £20.00. Tamron lenses are usually quite good.

Thanks George I may just do that. At that price it would be worth the gamble to see what its like.

wish i could find a 1.5x for a sensible price - I've got a 2x Teleplus which is great for the money but sometimes just a little too long

I don't know. This seems to be a three horse race between somebody who can't spell Prometheus and who has no idea how Ebay bidding works (despite feedback of 260), and two relative newbies who may or may not know anything.

Here's some stuff from the web:

Both the 1.4x and 2x TCs show some image vignetting with long telephoto primes like the 300/2.8, 500/4.5 and 600/4. Center sharpness is comparable to the Canon TCs, but edge/corner sharpness is lower. Note that on small sensor (APS-C) digital SLRs like the Digital Rebel and EOS 20D, vignetting will not be a problem and edge quality will not be as large an issue. The Tamron TCs are significantly cheaper than the Canon TCs, so they can be good value. By Bob Atkins.

Good TCs are thin on the ground. I might risk £75.00 if I wanted one badly.

I know they're not easy to get hold of but I'd definately go for the Pentax F 1.7x TC but the Tamron would be a good alternative.

If it's only for occasional use, bearing in mind that AF is slightly less effective due to light loss with a TC, a manual converter might well be more cost effective

I agree that the Pentax is the best choice, if money is no object. But given what it goes for now, if you can find one, this option looks like a reasonable budget bet.

I did manage to get the NEW TAMRON 2X CONVERTER PENTAX AF FIT for £42 so am quite pleased with myself for waiting as all the others that were being sold on Ebay went for around the £50 mark. Just waiting for it to arrive now.
