What is the feeling about the lens? Good/bad/indifferent?

Looking at a M50mm f4 Macro at present too - gives me a quandry.

Its a cracker;

AF can be problematic at times , but think this applies to most macro lenses, at 284 it`s a very good choice.
50mm might take you a bit too close for a lot of insects etc.

It can feel a bit clunky, but this belies superb IQ. It is one of the reasons I will keep my K20.

Good "heads up".

That's a great price for new/warrantee/etc. I paid 200 for the Samsung version of it second-hand recently and thought that was a bargain!

No doubt its a bit of stock clearance, partly because Currys don't sell much Pentax-fit gear (they used to have the Samsung clones), and partly because its now been replaced by the (500) WR version.
Still shooting in the dark (literally and metaphorically)...

Oooooooh Dave - those really are exquisite my friend - #1 is most attractive and #2 is so delicate.

Compliments from Bromborough

Overall good, it's light and handles very good but buildquality is a bit less. The image quality is also very good, very sharp, good colours and contrast without much defects like chromatic aberrations distortions.
Also this lens has quick-shift so if the AF doesn't want to lock you can simply override the AF by turning the focus ring so you can manual focus in an instance.

It is tempting - I don't do much macro, but sometimes on my travels there is a bug or flower ... that I would really like to get close to!

The lens is superb and at that price it's tempting to buy a second one to resell later...
Best regards, John

It's also very good as a normal lens because it's quite light and handles well, I've used it quite a lot for portrait for example.

Done, ordered. A little panic when the system refused to let me complete - I thought they had sold out but no, the Currys system crashed!

I doubt you'll regret the purchase, I just bought the one Robbie_d was selling for 265, so that price brand new is fantastic.

Not had much time to get to grips with it yet but I took it out the day it arrived and the initial results are very pleasing. Now all I have to do is sell the Tamron

I have a 90mm SP but its only 1:25 as opposed to 1:1, it fine for flowers and butterflies etc but anything smaller and it benefits from the addition of an extension tube or close up filter.

I keep looking on ebay for a price guide but never see them, our friend Clarky from down under has (or had) the same model so I may PM him and see if he's any idea (unless he reads this and beats me to it)

I think I've had it about ten years, cost me around 300 and that was used think I got it from Bass & Bligh in Leeds.

I know one thing, it feels a helluva' lot better made than the Pentax I just bought
