Pentax 67 inner/outer bayonet lens mount?

I've just purchased the adaptor which allows mounting Pentax 67 lenses to the Pentax 645 with diaphragm automation, etc. I am now watching for long 67 lenses, since anything beyond 200mm is very rare in the used market for the 645.

The question arises: which 67 lenses use the outer bayonet mount? All I can find from perusing the 67 user manuals is that a few lenses which use it don't have auto diaphragm.

My presumption is that the monster lenses might use the outer, and I suspect that my adaptor won't accomodate outer bayonet mounts.

Does anyone know which lenses use the outer mount, and which ones I should probably avoid?

Many thanks!

Hello George

Having previously owned the 800mm f4 it is (MANUAL DIAPHRAM & OUTER BAYONET) fitting. A protrusion attached to the aperture ring is used to push to the desired f-stop. The aperture dial is heavy duty as is the lens weighing in at 17Kg

Read about it's smaller brother, the 600mm f4 here...

http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/lenses/600mm.shtml

Same description pretty much applies for the 800mm f4 specifications as above(MANUAL DIAPHRAM & OUTER BAYONET) fitting.

The 1000mm f8 reflex I understand uses neutral density filters as the diaphram control (MANUAL DIAPHRAM & OUTER BAYONET) fitting.

Other Pentax 67 lenses with MANUAL DIAPHRAM but are INNER BAYONET are the 75mm f/4.5 Shift and 120mm f/3.5 soft.

I think those mentioned above are the ones to avoid with your 645/67 adapter.

ALSO

Should point out only the K/67 and the 645/67 adapters have the outer bayonet flange for outer bayonet fitting lenses, the K/645 obviously doesn't as no 645 lenses use outer bayonet fitting.

Thanks for the most useful post. While I doubt I could reasonably afford the real monsters, it would seem then that most of the shorter glass is useable.

To the best of my knowledge this would seem the case though there are others I'm sure with more experience using the 645 camera with 67 lenses and any further details on compatability.

My experience only goes so far as the 67II camera and just getting to know elements of the 645 system.

Many thanks all!

The adaptor came in its original box with the instructions. They state that certain 67 lenses will exhibit cut off corners and/or vignetting. There are some other caveats: the tilt shift lens won't work, etc. Hardly matters considering the rarity and cost of that bad boy!

When I can get the software working I'll post scans of the instructions.
