Pentax 645D

Well, there we have it.

The official Pentax dealer for Bahrain has said today that they have no intention of importing the 645D into Bahrain as there is no demand for it after their local market survey!

I do know that the dealer in Qatar is not importing them as there is no local MF following. At least in Bahrain there was a following for Hasselbladered kit.

How many in the UK will indulge?

Markets are indeed different.

Let's see what happens a year or so after it comes out. The 645D is one of those things that might build up a following or fall flat on its face, who knows which? It is a shame it didn't come out sooner before the advent of 20+ megapixel dSLRs.

They might or might not change their minds in Bahrain, depending on the final price and the reception in the rest of the world.

If it's a hot seller, they will want it.

Officially it's going to be a Japanese market only product so no importers will be bringing it in. Of course there's a track record of Japan-only Pentax products coming in through other channels though (the black FA Limiteds spring to mind)...

I'm certainly interested in it, but without firm specs and price it's impossible to say whether I'll be buying one or not. I'll keep waiting for now.

Bahrain is an odd market. There are several "camera clubs" here with a good mix of people and equipment.

I know from past experience, the dealer will bring to order, kit that would not normally be a shelf item.

They presently have a good stock of K7's, Kx's and K20D's. I may try to convince him that as he will not sell any more 20D's, and should sell me one cheap!

K20D's were never sold cheap at the end of their production run.

I bought one of the last three that Chris @ SRS had.

He probably could have increased the price.
