I too have the DS and it is a lovely body which until recently was in constant use alongside my K20. Of the 3 bodies I use it is the most comfortable and has, for me, the best view finder. If it is a good price go for it, I don't think I will ever think of parting with mine.

I DID part with my two *ist D bodies, but am now thinking of getting another and using it with the 21mm Ltd as a small, light, go-anywhere (except when it's raining) combo.
If you come across the *ist D, it's another good contender, and offers wireless flash and a more sturdy body. From the point of view of flash, it offers more options than any other Pentax DSLR, and will work properly with the wonderful AF-500FTZ.
As others have said, image quality from all the *ist DSLRs is excellent.

We had the KAF2 (SDM & Screwdriving) lenses like the DA*16-50, DA* 50-135, DA*60-250 DA*200 & DA*300 but it's to expensive and complex to design a lens with two AF systems so the newer lenses will be SDM or Screwdriving only.
The DA 17-70 is such a new lens with only SDM but also the DA*55 is SDM only and their was a DA*30 with the same design as the DA*55 on the road map so also a SDM only lens.
For now it would not really matter since their are only 2 lenses with SDM only but in the future (2+ years) you might be out of luck with the newer higher end lenses.
