P-TTL/TTL won't work but it should be fine in manual or auto modes.

The AF 400t doesn't support p-ttl, it does support ttl, auto and manual. However your camera doesn't have TTL so Womble is correct

I have a Pentax KM 9 (a.k.a K2000) and I'm thinking of buying the AF400T. I understand that I won't have P-TTL or TTL. I understand from Womble's posting that I will be able to use auto and manual mode. Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly is auto mode? I will need a chord to connect the camera with the flashgun. Will I also need an adapter to change the voltage, because the voltage of the flash is too high for the camera? Many thanks for any help you guys can provide. These forums are a life-saver for newbies like me.

Hi and welcome to the forum,
You will need the "4P Sync Cord B", It won't be easy finding one I suspect as they are discontinued and i'm not sure if you can get them from a third party supplier. The trigger voltage on this flash will be fine with your camera, any Pentax brand flash are generally considered safe.

Auto mode is where the flashgun itself computes the amount of light needed for a good exposure. There is an sensor on the front of the flashgun to do this.
You will need to use the back panel of the flashgun to select the ISO that you are using on the camera. This will show you which apertures you can select for auto exposure. If you select f5.6 on the flashgun, then do the same on the camera. In theory the flashgun should now give a good exposure for every subject in range. If not, vary the aperture on the camera to gain correct exposure.

I have two of these guns complete with full battery kits. Bl***y marvelous. I used them with my 645. Z1P. and my *istD on ttl. I've used one with my K10 on both manual and auto and they are still Bl***y marvelous. Next step is to try them on my K7. As Clarky says Pentax guns are safe on Pentax cameras. CHEERS Vic.
