The only problem that can arise with a bank transfer is, as Mike says, if the seller does not part with the item after receiving the money. That would be the same with a cheque.

I've paid for 2 items on here by bank transfer with no problem whatsoever. (One was Mike P, mind you! :lol

Yup, only paypal for me. I only purchased one item on this forum using bank transfer and waited 8 days without hearing anything from the seller despite sending P.M.s and text messages. The lens turned up eventually but I wont repeat the experience unless I already know and trust the seller.

I recently bought a lens on the forum, using international bank transfer. It worked just fine.
I have sold lenses on the forum using both international bank transfers and Paypal.

Personally, although the bank transfer takes a bit longer, the hassle involved is less, and I prefer it.

I suppose International Bank Transfers may incur some delay. Most of the UK banks are signed up to the faster payments system so the money usually arrives within 2 hours.

Archie - International Euro transfers are very quick, usually no more than an hour or two, often a lot faster.

The recent one though was Euro to pounds - and the banks must have their pound of flesh out of such transactions.

Within the Netherlands bank transfers, even to other banks are as good as instantaneous.

+1 on this, I purchased a Camera off the Forum with Bank Transfer, arrived faulty, with Paypal at least you have a chance of getting your money back.

Int'l bank transfer in the euro zone are ok, as they are free, but if you have to pay from Euro to GBP (at least from Finland) it's cheaper to use paypal....

Only ever bought two things via the forum, both by bank transfer, and both deals transacted without any problems.
There must be a lot of trust on the Forum. Bought a lens last year from ChrisR, and it must have been posted before I transferred the money.

I concurr that, but probably if you require SEPA transaction? I was told by my bank that usual transfer takes approx 2 days. Can't remember how it was with your 50-135 lens,I just remember it was quick and pleasant deal. And delivery from netherlands was ultrafast
