Pap Strap, R-strap

Hi,

I've seen the 'pap strap' on a few websites, but it's not cheap, [but cheaper than the R-strap] and I wondered if anyone had any first hand experience of using one? Also, are there any similar options for less money? Could I make my own?

I read on another forum of someone who bought the Blackrapid strap. They didn't like it, feeling it was not as secure as it could be. I have no idea if that is true but that was their worry with it.

My problem with them, especially with big lenses is that you cannot have the QR plate attached and the strap. I'd rather have the QR plate on the camera and a normal strap tbh.

I got one of these from Ebay .. offered £18 and accepted.

Carried my gripped K-7 plus Sigma 100-300mm f4 around and to be honest half the time I didn't even realise it was there.

Excellent strap.

With big lenses you normally have a tripod mount so you can attach the strap to either the camera or mount. When I used it on the 100-300mm iy went on the lens as I knew it was the only one I would be using.

I have QRs on both camera and tripod mounts.
With a big lens on the camera the centre of gravity is moved so you need the strap on the tripod mount, which is what you use to attach the lens to the tripod. If you put the strap on the camera the balance is wrong and I'm not sure I'd want all that weight on the bottom of my camera.
Just my personal view.

Seven days later it has arrived, and after a bit of adjustment feels good. It's well made but probably cost nothing like the £17 I paid for it to manufacture, but as it's the equivalent [copy] of a much more expensive item, I'm happy.Free post in seven days is pretty acceptable too.

Well it's better than the £30 some people are paying.

I carried my gripped K-7 with the Bigma attached yesterday on it with no problem.

Not sure I'd be comfortable using one of these, given that it's only over one shoulder. From using a shoulder bag for a few years (side-effect of having a metric ton of books to cart around) I know how easily such things can fall off even with a grippy shoulder pad!

Well my £15 bid was accepted a gew days ago & it arrived today, well pleased with it, feels really comfy on the shoulder...

I might yet buy one of these, the standard strap on my K-m isn't really the right length. Thanks to the thicker webbing bit I can't adjust it short like I do with my old film bodies (which then nestle comfortably in the crook of my arm, making them very inconspicuous and stopping any "snatch" mugging attempts).

I take it that the ebay strap bolts to the tripod socket?
