Panning with SR

Interesting topic,...
My undrstanding of the Pentax info re the 'SR' is that the sensor movement is quite small and is only intended to counteract the small hand movements present in purely hand-held use of the camera. Since panning with a moving subject is a fairly extreme movement it seems reasonable to assume that the 'SR' would be largely irelevant to the outcome.
All inage correction systems are, like depth of field calculation, entirely dependant on the size that the image will be reproduced at,....the bigger the 'print' the less effective the remedy,....or, the more remedy that is needed.

If the shake reduction system is a reactive one why is it so important not to use it when mounted to a tripod? If there's no movement or just the movement imparted by the shutter releasing then surely the shake reduction should not react. Is the system really a reactive one or is it a preset value based on the most common movement pattern as defined by Pentax research?

As I understand it it tries to compensate for movement and if there is no movement (as on a tripod) it gets into a loop as it tries to find some. How it works is another matter - i can think of a few ways it could work but I don't actually know.
Best regards, John
