I use PSP X and I guess it will be the same in PSP 9.
You need to create a New adjustment layer. Either the Hue/Sat/Light or Channle Mixer (select monochrome). You can then, with that layer selected choose the paint brush select black colour and paint over the image to mask off the adjustment layer and reveil the colour below!

Thanks Beakynet....it works a treat.
Forgetting the subject, what do you think of my first attempt?
Just catching up - A very good start, perhaps a little more contrast. One thing, you do need to be a little more accurate with the edge, using a brush with more opacity would help to blend the edge.

Thanks.
There'll be no stopping me now! I've even got up to 3 layers!!!!
Seriously though, learning how to use the adjustment layers is going to prove very useful.
Thanks

I was really impressed by the photos I've seen on here which are partially mono, with certain bits picked out in colour.
I presume it's something to do with the way layers are used, but after spending a couple of hours trying I gave up.
Can anyone give me some pointers on how to do this?
Thanks.
