still I felt pity for loosing the nice "steps" of the door (upper edge)
on my crop the upper piece of timber is less annoying.

Some good crops and lots of ideas, thanks guys and gals.
I think I am leaning towards Aiki's crop as it leaves in the 'steps' on the door, but makes the edges less distracting than in my initial crop.

You got rid of that piece of timber along the top, or at least the annoying bit. I thought that was what Pauly was referring to. You improved the comp without doing to much!

I love the details in the rusty old door and I agree that this would be good as two seperate pics, one featuring the owl and one featuring the the timber.
Both good crops.
I always enjoy seeing other peoples vision of photos they didn't take, I am always impressed by the ability to crop and improve a picture, its not something I have got the hang of too well yet.
