I support a person's right to own air guns and airsoft guns. I am sick of a nanny state that takes all our toys off us...If you don't act to stop them removing your right to have things like this, next it will be your cameras with long lenses because they intrude.

Please at least try to have a little accuracy in your post. In Scotland we have a Parliament not an Assembly, whose job it is to make laws for the people who live in Scotland.

No of course I dont but if you are suggesting you live in Scotland then your inaccuracy is truly astounding. Well done!

I have two locations - one in the Highlands and one in W London. I don't agree with the extra financial burden placed by that group in Edinburgh and the United Kingdom only requires ONE parliament that makes laws for the whole of the UK - England, Scotland, Wales & N Ireland.

But you the Scots) elected your legislature and they feel that air guns need tighter control presumably through their contact with their electorate. The remedy is surely not to have London deny the Scots elected representatives their say in the matter but rather their electorate makes sure the Scots elected members realise they are out of step (if that is the case)?

Mike, the point you make is apposite but I'm not sure what your last line means from 'but rather...', could you expand on it?

You elect the politicians to represent you or I guess because you trust them to represent you. If they don't do this you need to tell them and then if they persist you don't re-elect them was what I meant. I try not to but I have written to my MP on a couple of points most recently of that stupid drop in VAT.
Now he knows I think it was a dumb idea. He knew within 24 hours of it being announced as I was incensed.

The Scottish and Welsh legislature were elected and have specific powers. With this issue they are trying to expand their powers over and above those they were granted. Certain UK wide issues remain with Westminster and that is where this should remain. It is, as it happens, a very small number of people orchestrating the campaign. In my village in Scotland an opinion poll was taken and about 50% of adults responded and of those responding under 1% wanted controls.
Can you imagine having an English driving licence with a minimum age of 17 and a Scottish one with a minimum age of 16.5 years?

Fair point. I admit I didn't initially follow how the powers were new ones to be granted by Westminster.
They'd do a whole lot better outlawing those puny air pistols that are all but replica guns. I asked at the local gun shop what use they are and he said basically none but it was clear to me that if you waved it about in a Post Office then it's a brave man that looks down the barrel and deduces it's an air pistol and he can have a go.
