Interesting. It's my belief that if one wishes to abbreviate the word photograph by omitting "graph", then the result should be photo'.

So the plural of photo' should be photo's.

Pic's would also be the plural of pic', by the same argument.

I'd dispute your premise, though. It takes the "apostrophe in place of missing letters" principle too far.

There is nothing amiss with my argument, in principle. However, since one rarely sees photo' written as such nowadays, it would seem that the abbreviation has become a word in its own right, and it therefore follows that photos is the correct plural.

But not pics, please. I personally would always write pic's (unless I were in a hurry).
