My son has just made a small website, with some of our photos on, Some photos don,t look to good and will be replaced or re-presented, and more will be added, please give it a look and let us know what you think. We know it not perfect yet but we are working on it.

Not commenting on the photos (I will when I get a moment) but for public presentation, please, please, please remove the apostrophes when pluralising 'photo'.

Apostrophes should never be used if all you're doing is creating a plural noun.

Ever.

It is always wrong to do this.

Always.

I thank you.

Hi Gordon - had a quick look at the site and I do like the clean, uncluttered layout and colour scheme. It would be nice if there was a title or comment with the pictures as I find I often want to know about the subject of a photo, so for example knowing which pier I was looking at would be of interest to me.

Another comment is that while viewing the site at 1400x1050 some of the pictures did appear quite small, so those running a higher resolution on a large monitor may struggle.

Very nice pictures though and should be 'shown off' on a web-site

So where should the apostrophe go in "National Singles' Day"?

If you don't watch The Apprentice you will have no idea what I'm on about!

The point here is that the plural of "single" used as a noun is "singles", with no apostrophe.

Then, if you wish to indicate ownership, ie, a day for singles, then it's "singles' day", as you've written it.

Apologies (but not apology's) to the OP for turning his thread into a grammar discussion. I intended only to comment on the apostrophes on his site.

I like the overall look, quite sophisticated, but I hate web sites where you have to scroll and as you add more pictures you'll have to scroll even more. It seems a little perverse to use a 'portrait' format in what is essentially a 'landscape' medium. I think there are some good pictures in there too.

Oh, goody!
Another pedant like me!

I hate to see apostrophes in the wrong place!

I also get stirred up when people talk about, "referendums", etc

You want to read the whole of the front page!
It's littered with grammatical errors, but after the first few corrections, I took pity on the webmaster and left him alone. As for the spelling mistakes on there

Interesting. It's my belief that if one wishes to abbreviate the word photograph by omitting "graph", then the result should be photo'.

So the plural of photo' should be photo's.

Nice one. An excellent stir.

Pic's would also be the plural of pic', by the same argument.

I'd dispute your premise, though. It takes the "apostrophe in place of missing letters" principle too far.

MMMmm.
Looks like we've hijacked this thread.
I'm inclined to agree with Chris. It does stretch the rule a little too far for my liking.

However, if I do go with George's argument, then the "MPV's" (as pointed out by Daniel) would now become correct.

Oh, which way to turn

Please, please stop - this is supposed to be "Your Photos"

Perhaps we need a separate grammar / spelling section

I like the simplicity of the site, can't stand loads of flash etc - just want to concentrate on the images...

I agree with the idea to title the shots, give the location etc

Some nice shots too
