Hi, newbie here.
I have an Optio S50, which is a hand me down from the OH.
I have been using it for a while & quite like it, but would like a model with a better zoom & a view finder. Any suggestions please ?

As far as compacts go, getting a viewfinder isn't that easy these days. The I-10 delivers excellent quality and is rather nice to handle. The W90 is waterproof and shockproof, which is a useful idea.

If you want an electronic viewfinder, how about the X90? Although larger than a compact, it's not as big as a DSLR and it produces excellent results.
Best regards, John

The I-10 is now 1p under £100 at Jacobs. So much so I bought one at lunch time......

Sounds good. I bought a white one, now the new gunmetal one looks rather fine as well. Or maybe the black?

Which colour did you end up with?

I ended up with the black. I really wanted the black and silver one but Jacobs don't stock it. So Black it was.

I will give it a workout tomorrow as a group of us are off to Matlock Bath for the day to take photos, eat fish an chips, have a quick drink, more photos etc (you are more than welcome to come along John), so it will get a bit of use along with my K20D and MZ-5n.

Yes I am finding it hard to get any thing with a view finder, the trouble is that a lot of the time the day light is just to bright to see the screen.
Thanks I will have a look at those John.

Welcome to the forum SuziQ.

Just be warned that this photography thing becomes addictive, you'll end up with a DSLR, bag of lenses....

Sorry to disappoint but I am quiet happy with a sturdy point & shoot that I can put in a pocket & not worry about. I just can't be arsed with the messing about, I just go for the shot.
The best pre digi camera I had was an olympus OM1 I think it was, 35mm compact, slide over lens cover. Magic.. Now if I could have a digi one of those ..... This little optio fits in the belt pocket of my back pack, so I can get that snap while the OH is still unpacking his. 'proper camera'

No view finder but the new Optio RZ10 with a 10x zoom is a very nice little camera. It is small, but it feels very comfortable to hold.
It will be released soon I am assured .

Without you spend a lot you won't find a compact with a "proper" viewfinder I fear.
