Optio 550 Flash Sync Failure

Posted 25/09/2010 - 08:01 Link
Hi,

I have an Optio 550 which seems to have developed a flash sync problem.

The flash goes off, the camera works in good light, but when taking images in low light/dark conditions the image taken is the same as if the flash had been specifically turned off.

I have searched the net quite extensively and these forums, but it just doesn't appear to have been an issue for anyone else (apologies if I have missed them). Please could someone advise me as to any solutions? Am I being dumb and there is a setting that has become inadvertantly altered?

Thank you in advance.

Ben.

Welcome.

Have you checked the following? The flash won't fire if the capture mode is set to movie, infinity landscape, continuous, super-macro or the picture mode is set to fireworks?

Could it be that the subject is too far away? Anything further than 3 metres away will result in a dark image.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi Gartmore,

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, I can see the flash going off and it is not the image being too far away. In my mind it is defintely something to do with the shutter not being open when the flash goes off, as the image is just an under exposed image. The same image (anything between 0.5-3 metres) with bright light on it is OK - so definitly flash sync related.

I have tried it in fully Manual, Tv, Av, but primarily full Programme mode - all to no avail.

Any other help much appreciated.

Thanks,

Ben
