optio s4i - unable to edit avi's

I'm trying to use Adobe Premiere and a number of other video editors to edit the avi's the optio s4i produces. I can play them just fine, but when I try to edit them it says it doesn't recognize the format. i'm using win xp pro OS.

I have installed fairly recent divx codecs. k-lite codec pack 2.25 standard.

if different codecs are needed to actually use files produced by this camera it would be very helpful if pentax would make them available on their customer support site.

I've also tried installing the acdsee pentax software, which doesn't seem to have installed the necessary codecs, nor software to edit video.

thanks much,
nyaya

If I'm not mistaken, most of the digicams use the MJPEG-4 encoding. Unfortunately, patent and licensing laws mean you have to pay for an encoder (the decoder is available free with the Pentax CD and on other sites).

I seem to remember finding some reasonable Shareware encoders out there... best bet is to do a Google search. Here is a link to previous thread:

(I'd found an encoder for $10, so it shouldn't break the bank!)

I've been using WinXP's Movie Maker until I find a working solution for Adobe Premier 6.0. I'm actually quite impressed with the ease of use and power of Movie Maker. Has anyone found a way to import the Optio S4 AVI's into Adobe Premiere?
