Optio M60 slow

The TDF cycle race will be coming near my home this summer & I want to be able to take pictures very quickly in succession.

My OPTIO M60 pocket camera has a SanDisk SDHC 4gb class2 card in it.

Quality is fine but I can only take 1 picture every 3 seconds.

If I bought a PNY Elite SDHC 16GB card (write =65mb, read =100mb)...
would this card work?
& would it speed up picture taking significantly?

The M60 is quite an old camera and I think it will seem very slow these days.

To be honest, a DSLR would be best for this, so maybe a second hand K-x or K-r if you want to keep the cost down. The more recent they are, the faster they are.

That card you are using is very slow and isn't really suitable as you say, but as John mentions even if you upgrade the card, your camera is the limiting factor then. I don't know how fast the camera saves the images but I would guess that there's probably not much point in buying any card faster than a class 6 for it as you won't really see the benefit.

I've got a K-x and was using a class 6 card to take pictures of Go-Karts and planes but found that the camera was locking up after about 3 images at full quality ( in about 2 seconds) 12 MP JPEG (actual saved file size is about 5-6MB per image). I then bought a class 10 card (Sandisk Ultra 16GB) and noticed a slight improvement...but nowhere near as much as I had hoped. Its now up to about 4 images in 3 seconds before it freezes...I presume the camera just can't process the information quickly enough.

The only way I'm going to get more images per second is if I save them at a lower quality..say 6-8 MP (probably about 3.5- 4MB per image). This is ok if you don't intend printing them out at anything bigger than 7x5 or 9x6 or thereabouts as you are sacrificing potential print quality at larger sizes by saving in smaller file sizes.

As John says..the more modern the camera...the faster it can save a given volume of data.
