Optio M60 'ticking' in Auto Pic mode

It is normal for digital compact cameras to make ticking noises as they try different apertures and focus settings. These are mechanical things and mechanical things make noises. I don't know why your camera is silent in the other modes, though.
Anyway, I wouldn't worry about it if the camera seems to be taking pictures fine.

I received a Pentaz Optio M60 for Xmas and for the first few days of use it was great - however, I noticed an annoying ticking noise (like it's trying to get a reading or something?) when the camera was in Auto Picture mode. It doesn't make this noise when in playback or any of the other shooting modes.
I sent it back to Amazon as I have never known a camera to make a noise like this before, it's not loud...but noticeable enough to be annoying! I have received the replacement today but this one is doing exactly the same thing.
So...have Amazon sent me the same one back hoping I won't notice, or is this just how the camera is?? Anyone experienced the same?
Thanks
Julie
