Optio 60 Accident

If there are no signs of obvious breakage, and the lens extends then retracts when you turn on the camera - it's possibly a stuck focus mechanism.
It'll require back-to-base and a charged repair (which is probably more than the camera is worth).
There's been a thread or two on this subject which I could dig out...
(but I can't take any responsibility for trying it as it's a delicate job, and not for the feint-hearted!)

Thanks, MattMatic. The lens doesn't extend and retract. The only thing that happens is that the Optio spalsh screen displays and before the menu screen loads, it turns itself off.

I think the problem described by MattMatic (though not the original poster!) is the one I am suffering with my Optio V10 since a week ago. Though I did not drop it or give it any physical shock, one day it suddenly started just switching itself off shortly after being switched on. And yes, the lens extends, the screen goes from blurred to focused to blurred, and the lens retracts and then the unit switches off.
I'll see if I can dig out the threads you mention, MattMatic.
Thanks
Michael
