Hi. I have a problem with my Optio 50L. When I get towards to furthest extent of the zoom, the camera shuts down. I can move 5 steps without problem, and the camera works perfectly. One more step, and the lens retracts, shuts, and it's "Goodnight Vienna" ! I've tried "spanking new" batteries, and several different settings. I think I may just be missing something obvious, otherwise something sinister is happening !!

Anyone have any clues ?

Dave.

Hi Dave,

Have you tried NiMH batteries, or are you using Alkalines? My niece was having a similar problem with her Kodak compact at Christmas using brand new alkalines, but with the rechargeables from my camera it was fine.

Just a thought. Of course, it could be that the lens isn't quite aligned properly, so when it gets to full extension, it gets stuck, and the camera shuts down to stop any further damage.

How old is the camera, still under warranty?

I have the same problem with my Optio 50L. Can you give some advice how it can be resolved without going to a service?

(My camera is still under warranty but it's very inconvenient to use, because the service's office is in another city.)
