opinion for old 135 mm f2.8 mm Telephoto lens

Hello, I would like you opinion about a potential purchase. I currently have an MZ 7 and I am thinking of buying an old 135 f2.8 lens. It's on auction on ebay, how much do you think is worth assuming it is in excellent condition? Any help will be greatly appreciated

It depends on the lens. A mint "other make" lens of 135mm f2.8 is probably in reality not worth much more than a fiver!

A mint SMC Pentax-M 135mm f3.5 could be worth £20 - £30

If the condition is less than perfect I wouldn't bother because there are so many of them to choose from.

Ultimately, though, the price is effectively whatever the buyer is prepared to pay.

With auctions such as eBay now being so popular, there's no real second-hand value anymore - identical items often sell for very different prices!

Just to add to Kimbo's comment - sometimes seemingly identical items on eBay can go for very different prices because perhaps one description gives bidders more confidence than another. It could be the condition as shown in a photo, the rating of the seller's feedback, the location of the item, the extras included, the postage rates, etc.

Personally I feel discouraged by sellers giving lots of negative information about non-paying bidders and promising negative feedback and all that sort of thing - it makes it look as though they experience lots of trouble and it makes me wonder why. Also reams of conditions are rather over the top!

So I think there's more to it than meets the eye!

I went ahead and bid for it before the first person answered. I only realised that it wasn't a pentax lens but a third party lens after I placed the bid. I am sort of hoping that I don't win the auction, but then again 26 $ isn't that much money anyway, I just hope it won't turn out completely useless.

I'm afraid you're stuck with it. Some sellers will describe a lens as "Pentax 135mm lens", even when it's made by Sigma or somebody.

In such a case, the title is misleading, and provides grounds not to pay. In this case the seller has been honest.

$26 is not a huge price to pay for experience, and if you use it away from the sun at f8 the results might not be too bad.

Okay, I did not win the auction, someone outbid me on the last minute and I can't say that I am disappointed.
Well I am in the market for a portrait lense, but I don't want to pay a lot. So an old one with good optics would be fine, any suggestions?
