Purchased Lightroom 3 over the weekend, had a bit of a play yesterday and have to say I'm very impressed. The whole way it is set up just seemed to make immediate sense to me, it's very user friendly, I can see why it is so popular on here.

Can't wait to get using it more.

Great minds think alike I think Robbie, I also bought it over the weekend after my trial expired and spent yesterday beginning to import photos. Compared to Aperture there are some differences in workflow I'll have to get used to, but I'm very impressed so far.

Jackie, not sure re: upgrade. This is my first experience of Lightroom so I don't know what the previous versions were like. I'm sure there are plenty of people here who will be able to help though.

Why not change to ver 2 !? (2.7) you'll find a lot of changes from ver 1, they improved it greatly, and should be a lot cheaper

Jackie I would upgrade to 3, with number 2 they didn't upgrade as much, 3 is truly a real improvement.
I wonder if you can buy the upgrade version of 3 instead of the full?

ps. just looked and indeed you can buy the upgrade version of 3 to upgrade your 1.4 so it only cost you $99

One of the few upgrades you would really like are the noise reduction, lens correction and the speed since they have improved that.

You can buy the Upgrade to v3 direct from Adobe for a smidge over £80 inc VAT and P&P.

You even get a decent outer box to stick your wallet with v2 in it as well

Just thought I'd update this a week on after a lot of library reorganisation and processing.

Bottom line - Lightroom continues to impress.

The Noise Reduction tool is absolutely outstanding, to the extent that people really shouldn't necessary worry about upgrading their body for improved high ISO performance. It really is my favourite feature so far.

The Smart Collection feature is really useful for organising your shots and automatically updating your albums.

All in all, the feature set and user-friendliness for the price is a winner.

Can't recommend it highly enough.

It's pretty much all I use - very impressive.

I upgraded from v 1.4 direct to v 3, and it is a very significant improvement. Plenty to play with, lots of control. Best of all, it's a RAW workflow tool and non-destructive.

It's also a good way to organise and import your images.

Agree about the new NR. It is very impressive, even at 100% crop. I can see almost no loss of detail in individual human hairs, even with the NR slider at maximum.
