The 18-250 and 18-270 are sharp enough at all lengths, although admittedly on paper the longer we go the weaker the performance is. That's pretty normal with this type of lens. In practice the full focal range is usable.
I suspect the problem is that at longer lengths the aperture is quite small, so camera shake is more likely unless we keep a very sharp eye on shutter speed. Also at small apertures the AF may not be as happy when the light levels fall.
Sue uses the 18-250mm and gets stunning results from it. I tried out the 18-270mm and wouldn't hesitate to use it if I had one. Of the two, the longer lens has to be marginally more useful.

Hi Stan. Vic here. I've got an 18-250 which I got as a happy snapper for holidays when weight restrictions are a problem when flying. I've used it around the garden to good effect this year and will definitely be taking it on my hols. For its range I find it very good. Of course I'll take my 10-20 for the wide indoor shots but will leave the 50-500 at home as it is approx. 2Kg.

Thanks Vic. I have the 150-500mm and it's a lot of weight to lug about especially as it didn't even come out the bag on a couple of trips Sod's Law on one trip I'd left it at home and could have done with it I'm thinking along the lines of 18-250 or 18-270 and 10-24mm Tammy (which I already have). More room in the bag for sandwiches then

Hi Stan you are more than welcome to give my Tamron 18-250 a go if you want to see how you get on with it as it is the same as the pentax one.

I hadn't realized that was the lens you used Barrie, I thought the images you posted were well taken. My main reason for "weight reduction" is the club outings. I've sort of decided, unless I know before hand , to just take the 18-135mm, the 10-24mm and/or the 55-300mm. Of course that would mean changing lenses and that's always a risk

Having re-read the old thread (it wasn't me earlier by the way) I was wondering what the outcome was. Did you go for the 18-250? It seems the thread died a death before a conclusion was reached.
