One lens out and about

I would like to ask has anyone ever said to them self’s right iam going out and I am only going to use one lens no matter what?

I did today and I found it was harder than I thought? As I was walking about in Chester with a 50mm no zoom I realised that it was hard as I am use to using my 17-70mm or my 55-300mm, i know that this lens is great for street shots but iam not so it was different but hard.
But in the end it was fun.

So as anyone tried this ????????

Often, it's an excellent discipline to do this with various lenses. It makes us really see things and work at it.

Try it with all lenses, even a fisheye or a long telephoto.

I use the 40mm DA Ltd all the time as a sole lens.

I do this more often than not

It was teh turn of the '28' today

If I don't have something special planned, like a shot where I know I will need multiple lenses, or a certain lens; I exercise this as well.

I have a small bowl with folded up notes. Those notes contain all my lenses.
So if I am just going out, and decide to take my camera with me, I will pick a note.
Whatever that note tells me, I bring.
(After I pick the note, I put it aside, until there is only two notes left in the bowl, then I refill it. You see, I do not want to know what I will get, because I then will plan around it )
Doing it this way, I am forced to learn my lenses a bit better, and I get a rotation.

It is always fun when I am heading into the city, and end up with a 200mm prime.

I did exactly that this morning. Went off on my bike with just my K5 and an 85mm prime. Certainly makes my back a lot lighter

Yep, do it with my DA *35mm currently, it is tough and always used to do it with my M 28mm before I parted with it....what a fool....

I did it when we went to Haddon Hall Shaun. I only used the Pentax-M 28mm F3.5 and got some pretty good images with it.

I will do it again sometime soon, but I might cheat a bit and take the Sigma 50-500 which is a bit like having a bagful of lenses!

I love this approach as well - recently just used the new Samyang 14mm solely, but I've had a couple of days with only the Tamron Adaptall 135mm f2.8.

I'm guessing not many of us here will have much interest in a new X-5 then!

I found out that this way it helps me get to know the lens iam using like what it can do and find out what it can’t do.

I do this frequently but with a zoom, usually the 16-50 or the 50-135 depending on what I'm planning to shoot. Last Friday I went out with just the Sigma 10-20 on the K30. I hate carrying loads of gear.

I do it with a 21mm Ltd, with that lens on a K30 it's almost compact camera size
