Hi,
I have not used any older lenses before on my digital slrs. Having just bought a Pentax AF 28-80mm I attached it to my K7 and switched it on. The camera displays a "F" on the lcd display. The shutter button does nothing, and the lens does not autofocus.

Am I missing something? As I say, I have never used older lenses before or is this a faulty lens?

That's very strange, the AF should fully work.
Have you set the aperture ring off the lens to A (auto)?

You can use the aperture ring if you want but you need to permit that with a setting in the custom menu so out of my head, I don't have a K7 so it's hard for me to advice ^^;

Looked it up, it was 37. Using aperture ring in the custom menu but I believe they added some option in the firmware update so it isn't number 37 any more.

I would clean the contacts on the mounts of both lens and camera, using a soft dry cloth. This should remove any grease that might be spoiling the contact.

Setr the aperture ring to "A", as Stefan has mentioned, and you should be fine.

If there's still no joy, then it could well be a faulty lens.
Best regards, John

You should just be able to use any Pentax AF lens with it in the same manner as your DA lenses. Just make sure that the aperture is set to "A" and the camera is switched to AF.

Well, aside from the one-off 35-70mm f2.8 which only works with the ME-F. Anything later than that should work!
