Sorry about this, but I can`t open that b.... thread!
As I have a quite a lot of old k-mount SMC pentax lenses and the limited edition ones, I`am just wondering if I can use them on the digital *ist using the camera in complete manual mode? A collegue here told me that on the D*ist I can only use old k-mount ones with extension tubes? Is that right?

thanks for your help.

cheers,
Tanya

Your colleague is wrong.

I use several 1980 vintage K and M lenses on my *ist D. You need to be running firmware v.1.10 or higher available here http://www.pentax.co.uk/istd/istd_fw.htm

Hi!

Thanks for that information!! That makes the future decision that next pentax is a digital one a lot easier!

sorry,
I found out the my collegue was talikng about the istDs. I think he has his wisdom form the german pentax site where they listed that under the technical data. I wonder if a lot of people will by the new istD when they can throw everything away. Strange that they cannot simply keep the compability.

As I understand it K mount M lenses will also work with the *istDs, although there is no ‘Green Button’ I’m sure it is still possible to manually meter with the lens stopped down. I can’t remember the exact sequence but I think you use the AE button. Check out some of the threads on www.dpreview.com like the Pentax Talk forum.
