old film lens

hi
can anybody tell me about these lens
that i used on my super a and will they work
on the k200d
1 smc pentax-a f1.7 50mm
2 sigma 35-70 zoom master f2.8-f4
3 sigma 80-200 f4.5-f5.6
4 vivitar 28-200 f3.5-f5.3 macro
5 kiron mc7 2xteleconverter

If you used them on your Super-A then they'll work just fine on your K200D.

Zoom technology has come a long way over the years so don't expect the Sigmas or the Vivitar to be any better than the current kit lenses (and manual focus of course), however, the Pentax A50/1.7 should prove to be a very nice performer indeed - a good focal length for portraiture on digital and fast too.

Assuming they are all "A" series lenses Hefty

"M" lenses would have worked perfectly on the Super-A in Av mode

Neil; if your lenses have an "A" setting they will function perfectly on the K200D with the obvious exception of autofocus if they dont have the "A" setting they will work with limited function.

With the exception of the Vivitar all can be used on your K200d, I have the 50mm and Vivitar lenses as well.
The only limitation with "M" lenses is the camera doesn't talk to them,but you can still use them, I do.

The problem with the Vivitar is an extended flange inside the bayonet mount that stops it being mounted on the body. I'm looking at modifying mine to fit

As hefty said the best lens in the bunch will be the 50mm, but hey, just try them and see.

Just had a thought, don't try Ricoh R-P/K mount lenses, there's something about the extra contact catching the lens drive shaft making it hard/impossible to remove the lens without damaging the body!

I think the Vivitar lens has this mount.

Can any member confirm this please?

I have a Ricoh 50mm f2 MF which works ok on my K10D (accepting its' MF and non-"A" limitations).

As a prime, it gives some of the best results I have achieved, once I have worked out the settings.

I think it is some of the later Ricoh lenses which cause problems. John Riley explained this some time ago but I can't remember in which thread.

and it looks like it as the extra contact
and it says on the mount p/k-a r-p/k
so it looks like a ricoh mount as well
and they are all A series lens

I've got a vivitar 105mm macro that says its pk-a pk-r that fits fine.
As I recall the issue is a ball bearing on only some ricoh fittings that pops into an indent on the pentax DSLR mount and is then a right pain to release!
I'll dig through my bookmarks to find links to the sites with pictures of what to look out for

hardgravity is right. ricoh "P" lenses and Third party lenes r-p/k or pk-a/r or similar should not be used on Pentax Auto Focus. The aperture contact required for Ricoh bodies lines up with the focus drive of the pentax body and lockes then together

Note about Ricoh lens compatability:

Ricoh program lenses are not compatible with Pentax Auto-Focus bodies. You can identify these lenses by a “P” on the aperture ring – when the ring is rotated into the “P” (Program) position, it locks in place and you have to depress a small button to get the aperture ring to move again.

The Ricoh program lenses have a small ball bearing contact on the rear flange of the lens that will pop right into the hole that holds the AF cam on Pentax autofocus bodies. The result will be that the lens gets locked tight on the body, only halfway mounted. I learned this the hard way trying to mount a Ricoh lens on my Pz-1p! It took a trip to the repair shop to get the lens off the camera.

The Ricoh program lenses will work fine on manual focus Pentax bodies – no AF cam or hole to get stuck on. With my Ricoh 50mm f 1.7 I just removed the back flange from the lens and took out the ball bearing contact. With the modification it no longer works as a program lens on Ricoh bodies (not that I have any Ricoh program bodies) but it is now compatible with Pentax AF bodies.

Older, non program Ricoh lenses do not have the contact or this problem These lenses are basically like SMC-M or K lenses in their aperture operation.

With the exception of the 50mm f1.7 mentioned above, all of the Ricoh lenses reviewed here are the older, non-program models, that fit without problem on all Pentax bodies, both manual and auto focus.

On the bright side you can remove the offending contact so returning the lens to pk/a format. i've done this with:

Vivitar Series1 28-105
Vivitar 70-210
Sigma 400 f5.6

all i used was a very small crosshead screwdriver and a pair of tweezers

To Overthere. Your images were very helpfull. I have an old Vivitar 24/f2.8 PK-A/R which I have never tried to use on an AF Pentax body. When I checked it although it had no P for prog. letter on it, it did have the extra pin. The inside is a little different to the Ricoh and doesn't have the small clip with the 2 screws but has a small (brass)? flat spring rivetted in place which you can lift with a small screwdriver and lift out the pin with a pair of tweezers. I found this a good little lens in the past so I might give it another try just for old times sake. CHEERS Vic.
