Hello everyone. I took this photo of the side of an old barn. I thought it was a nice photo of texture and line. What do you think?

Hi Sophs

This is in the style of Bwhicmawr, (maybe right) - Andrew, (forgive me)

Maybe could be a little sharper?

Not my style, talk to Andrew

Nice one though

Yup, looks a little soft to me too, but that could be down to Photobucket resizing the images for the web. Are you sharpening after resizing in Photoshop?

Nicely done and well composed with the colour placed on the third

Yeah now that I look at it, it does look like it needs to be sharpened. And I didn't edit this one on Photoshop this time, have you heard of Picasa? I just adjusted the highlights and shadows on it on there. I did upload it to Photobucket though so thats probably why its not as sharp as it should be.

Thanks, Sophs.

Yes I have heard of Picasa and used it myself....I like it , but found it a bother to upload it onto other site. Now I use flicker. I did like the colour and texture of the wood , maybe a little out of focus sometime sharping does help.

Sophie,

You might want to check the camera's settings - the EXIF data for the photo posted here shows that it was taken in 2006

Either that, or Picasa is changing your EXIF dates, as I noticed that your Whitby Goth image is showing similar data.

Keep taking these texture pictures, they can be very rewarding subject matter.

Nice shot I can't fault it at all If you click on it the original
is sharp enough.

For the forum you should reduce pics to 800 pixels wide otherwise
the board s/ware reduces it and loses definition.

Seems sharp enough to me, but possibly slightly dark? It's not bad, but I think it needs more 'oomph'. I think the wood needs to be more knackered, or there needs to be some focal point of interest (a hole, a plant, a nail, a sign, something). The reddish splodge is serving that purpose at the moment.

Nice Shot,

You do seem be in Bwlchmawr territory with this one

You may be able to push the sharpening on this type of shot quite far before it becomes obviously oversharpened as there are no really high contrast edges - I could however be wrong - not for the first time

Agreed with everyone - I use Picassa all the time unless I am in Flickr and it is quite sufficient for my old brain to handle if a little limited in scope.

Just keep taking the shots - lots of great things to come I think.

I've been type-cast, Sphs, that's the trouble. But they're right: this is very much my kind of shot, although I am hoping to see a therapist soon...
I've taken the liberty of messing about with your shot: crop, levels (Tim was right: not enough light tones) then a little sharpening using layers (which you won't have in Picasa, although it is a brilliant free bit of software) then a simple frame and a final resize. Hope you don't mind.

Perhaps it is a little overdone, but this is for illustrative purposes but you can't deny it "sings"...
Now where did you say this old barn is situated?!...
Best wishes,

Andrew
