Oh No I Think My K5 Is Kaput :(

My K5 has developed a fault.

When I take a photo it seem to take it correctly but the preview for the photo on the rear screen is just completely white and then when that disappears the photo isn't on the memory card.

Help

Tried a different memory card?

Yes I have tried different memory card. Although the problem only appeared when I bought a brand new memory card and put it in.

I'm not suggesting that I have a solution but these are the things that I would try;
Is it possible to view any images you took previously on any card?
Can you format a card in camera and try that?
Can you try an reinstall the latest firmware?

Failing this it sounds like a repair shop job?

reformat both cards, one at a time on computer , put back in k5 and the format via k5 , then do a factory reset from menu system, turn off, the factory reset again ... worth a try!!!
could have been a virus on mem card it has happened before...

Closely examine ALL of your cards. Are all the thin plastic spacers between the contacts still there?

Try formatting a card on the PC, crate a top level directory DCIM. Under that create a directory with a name 100_2701 and then copy a few original .PEF image files into that directory.

Install that card in the camera and see if those images can be seen.

Maybe do a reset to factory settings, and finally load the latest firmware onto a card and see if it will load.

OK I have tried all of the above. I upgraded to firmware 1.15 from 1.03 and did all the other things and the problem still exists.

Also another problem happened today - I took a photo and after it took it the camera locked and there was a faint whirring noise from inside. I had to remove the battery to get it to work again.

Worried.

1.15 - 1.03 Upgrade!? I'd check that if I were you. Also be sure you are putting the correct firmware for the correct camera on and not K-5ii or another.

I don't know what you mean. Yes it's definitely for the K5.

1.15 is the latest K-5 firmware

I still have V1.03 in one of my K-5s, V1.14 in the other one. Identical performance too.
