Oh No!! Its that smoking rose again :)

Just couldn't stay away from smoke. This is what happens when one gets addicted to it

A few twists from yesterday's smoking rose. Still not exactly how I wanted but I think I managed to improve a little.

The word "awesome" is not one that comes readily to my lips, as you might guess, but I have to say that some of these images of Amin the star leave me almost bereft of words.

But not quite. The first is the best, to my eyes. Simpler, and most effective. However, the third is fascinating. How on earth did you get the variegation of colours in the smoke?

George, I truly appreciate those words and I thank you deeply for that . I am glad you like the images. I had a great time planning them and trying to execute the best I could. I must say though that they are still not there as I would have wanted them. But tomorrow is another day and I have plenty of incense sticks to burn. .

Like you, I also prefer the simpler ones, they are very captivating and the simplicity of the smoke itself appeals to me.

The last one I am afraid the answer for those colours are much simpler than perhaps you might have thought to be . I just coloured the patterns of the smoke in photoshop. . Its just an old habit of mine of playing with the colours, since I started these smoke plays once in a while I take a few images with more appealing patterns and just use some colouring skills that I managed to improvise over time and this way I also practise my still very crude post processing skills .

These smoke pics are cool! Like #1 the best. Both the rose and smoke is beutifully captured, I would like one thing, though - I don't get the feeling that the rose and smoke interacts or belong together in the same space. Understand?

This was more fun rather than anything serious Joe.
I was so bored with the weather and in fact I was trying something with smoke and after almost three hours of preparing the setup ended up finding that there was a major flaw so the whole idea had to go back to the drawing board. As I was already playing with incense sticks I just stepped into the garden and plucked the rose to just shoot these ones so I woldn't end up leaving the shed empty handed after so many hours of effort .

On a different occasion I know probably a better setup and a different colour rose could have given a different perspective. Its all about experimentation .

But thank you for your comment regarding the smoke not interacting with the rose.

I agree with George, image 1 is fantastic, gentle and wispy smoke. Image 3 is weird but in a very good weird way. I wouldn't worry about using Photoshop to get that effect, not sure how it would be done any other way.

Not sure I should say this...but I will.
I was chatting to Amin earlier about my ventures in attempting to recreate the glass and coloured water effect. Now I don't usually have the time to try sommat like that but I gave it a try.
Oh my GOSH!!!
I thought I was going to face a messy divorce today!
The goblet that I had stuck to a sheet of glass that was filled half way with red water, (food colouring(and it was a large goblet, one that holds a full bottle of wine)), became, shall we say, unstuck.
The tablecloth, curtains and nets went in the wash on a hot setting and the laminate flooring needed a good scrub.

My wife took it extremely well and even let me carry on, but she never left my side after that. She had a laugh with her parents on the phone afterwards.

So after this I went outside and did some macro work!

Amin, the moral of the story is to leave these "Dangerous" jobs to those who know what they are doing and for those who have their own sheds outside!

Sounds like you had quite an adventure Paul . I wish you had taken a shot of the mess , that way we could have a competition of a messy workplace. But I have an impressin that I would win there. You should see my floor in the shed when I am done .

I think a layer of frost (perhaps an inverted compressed air can) on the rose would sell it... Don't get me wrong, the image is an achievement, but... it needs something to tell a story... a reason for the smoke...

Thanks Don, please keep those ideas coming. As I mentioned on my first rose, this was just an idea out of the blue and very experimental so these ones are in a way very crude and basic. Even the colour of the rose I think its the wrong one, I feel that a yellow rose would have suited better and enhanced the image, but I just couldn't be bothered at this stage because I was more concentrated in tweaking it enough first to make it appealing.

Don, what you just mentioned has made me think of a few tweaks . Wait for the new version with a twist
