lost track of the number of times I dropped my Canon G10 over quite a few years inc dropping two storeys in a disused convalescence hospital ... still carried on working a treat.

Never heard of a neck strap, if you have then use it.

I've got an over-the-shoulder sling thing that has a sturdy screw fastening for the tripod mount. It is amazingly comfortable to wear and the camera is ready to hand at once BUT you don't have it bouncing around on your chest. Thoroughly recommended.
