I only ever used spot focus, because that's what I was focused on,

hmmm? It would have to be quick then. The AF-C on my K10 and K20 are no where near fast enough to track moving objects properly with any of my lenses
Apparently you just have to learn how to get round it on the K10D/K20D and you will be fine.

Still .. in a few hours all will be revealed,

I should go on a Hollywood Focus Puller course.

tw - can someone explain how having loads of AF points is useful. I just use the centre one, focus and recompose.
For moving targets the more focus points the better, so the camera can interpolate between them. This permits almost magical focus abilities, something Pentax is far behind on. For my use I don't really mind, but for sports, action, etc. it gives a significant advantage.

Sorry, the spec sheet says 99.
Listen to my albums free on BandCamp. Or visit my main website for links to photography, etc.

51200 is 9 stops over 100 ISO. Half of that would be somewhere around 2400 ISO, which the K-7 and K-x manage just fine.

OK, I'm going to look into this. Cheers - Moving targets are easy to find in our house. I have two dogs. I just gotta shout 'Treats!' and voila!!!

hmmm? It would have to be quick then. The AF-C on my K10 and K20 are no where near fast enough to track moving objects properly with any of my lenses
I recently used the K10 + DA*60-250 to photograph Battle of Britain Spitfire/Hurricane display. I was using multi-focus point and AFC and it worked perfectly.

I've never tried multi-point with AF-C. I will now. Thanks

Works perfectly here too, air shows, Red Kites, Express steam locomotives coming straight at me 3/4 on, nails them all if I do my bit.

More likely waiting until I leave

In which case you all have to wait until Wednesday afternoon.

The announcement is 4pm this afternoon. Whether or not you'll be able to touch a K5 yourself when you go to Photokina... unknown until doors open and someone reports on the Pentax booth (don't hold your breath for the trade press to rush reports from there...)
Still shooting in the dark (literally and metaphorically)...
