off camera flash system

Hi James - long time no see
In my version of the manual for the Pentax AF540FGZ flash, at page 19 it states,
"When using multiple flash units set to P-TTL or TTL Auto and adjusting the amount of light at the same time, use the camera's exposure compensation".
Assuming I am interpreting this correctly, that tells me you can set the output for these flashes while off-camera, using the Ev control on the camera itself.

Edit - if by trigger however you're referring to a flash mounted on the camera, what I've outlined here is not what you want at all!

Quantum kit is just about the best there is, I use the batteries on my Pentax hammerhead flashes, pricey though at £300 per battery but you get mains power performance and 1000 flashes per charge.
Sadly Quantum haven't supported Pentax for around 20 years.
