odd couple

My first attempt at taking the camera downtown; thought I'd start by using a borrowed long lens (FA J 75-300), so I didn't have to get so close!

Converted to mono with Silkypix's "mono 2", with some adjustments to contrast.

Does it work? Suggestions?

This should've been an entry in "The Street" comp. There's some interesting things going on here. Looks like she's offering him something, but his posture is saying "don't touch" - folded hands, knees and feet so close together. But even more than that, he's so close to the right edge of the frame, that he seems to be trying to escape. Don't know if it's been cropped that way or not, but he conveys a real sense of unease. I think it's a great picture with a story.

It seems a bit dark at the top, I just now noticed that they're sitting in front of a graveyard.

Very good capture - with a story. Make you think. Excellent captured.

I would probably work on the B/W conversion. Seems rather dark. Perhaps a bit more sharpening or contrast wold help as well.

I really like it and as Nimitz's says it tells a story and gets you thinking.

Its just begging to have a couple of speech bubbles added.

My rendition would go like this.
Woman: Hey look what i found next to that grave stone, It looks like someones finger.

Man: Get that thing away from me woman

I love it! The woman seems to be offering a mobile 'phone to the somewhat distressed-looking man. The man's pose is probably worth a whole chapter in NVC (body language). I think the background is also a major part of the story. Great picture!

I really like it. I agree it would have been a very strong contender in the last competition.

Contrast is nice and crisp, how I like it.

Fantastic body language.

The image is just a bit too dark in the shadows, but otherwise pretty good.

Thanks a lot for the responses. I'll toy with contrast and the mono conversion some more; I didn't want things to look flat (esp the guy's overcoat), but ended up with darker shadows. Perhaps when I start to figure out PSE6 for the conversion ...

Cheers, Clarky!

Here's another shot from a couple moments later. The focus wasn't as crisp, otherwise I'd like it just as much. (Although maybe at this size the lack of focus isn't as noticeable : Here the whole story is in the woman's eyes.
