O-RC1 Remote not working with K5 or K7

Now, either I am being thick (quite possible and it is very cold today) but my O-RC1 remote appears to not be working with either my K5 or K7!

I last used it before the summer both with my Kr and K200d - but today it has no interest in either of my cameras.

Any thoughts?

Sounds as though it's incompatible with both these cameras, Andrew. Either that, or the battery in the remote has gone flat.

I think it's probably the battery. It is compatible with the K-7 and K-5.

I hope the battery hasn't gone flat Steven, I haven't taken anywhere near the shot limit!

I had assumed it was compatible, lucklily I have a corded one too.

Andrew, I was thinking along the lines of you having accidentally pressed the RC button with a heavy object when it was stored away.

Does the manual for both cameras suggest compatibility?

FWIW, to test IR remotes, just point a cheap digital camera at it.
Most phone cameras are IR sensitive, and pressing the button should show up nice and bright in the phone image

I don't think it is the battery as when I point the remote at the cameras and press the buttons, the red lights on the camera bodies flash so I assume they are getting something.

You have set them to fire remotely using the four-way button I assume?

The battery on mine has just expired, a mere 17 years. I'll complain to Pentax

Yep indeedy!

But what I have just noticed is the red light on the body starts flashing as soon as I select remote as the shooting mode....

Yes that's right - it's to remind you it is in that mode.

Then I think it is the remote which is broken. I have heard of others of that sort just giving up the ghost, and after only a few uses too.
I don't know how old yours is but it may be worth seeing if you can get it checked under guarantee/sales of goods act.

Could it have been pressing against something in your bag and flattened the battery?
