My P70 is playing up again

This time pics from a series I took yesterday and downloaded last night, though they weren't deleted from the camera are , now on playback covered in white horizontal lines

Have managed to take a shot of those using the K-x and the P70 will be going back down to SRS tomorrow

It only came back to me on the 12th

GRRRRH

Now to download the piccies from the K-x

It's such a nice camera as well, that's bad luck indeed.

Hopefully it will be sorted soon. Did you try another SD card and did you format the card in the P70?
Best regards, John

John - this card was formatted in the P70 when I got it - it was split new then and had never been used.

I have phoned SRS and told them and arranged to e-mail the pics - as they are on playback / review and as I downloaded them yesterday so they can see the problem clearly.

I can't help feeling that 2 episodes of this in its short life [ bought in February ! ] should not happen.

This is a real shame. It's one of the best compacts Pentax have made...has had some very favourable reviews.

Hope all is well when you get it back. Maybe they'll send you a new one if there's any stock left! Most frustrating for you.

Andrew
Best wishes,

They don't have any more of them - mine was the last one

The sad thing is that it's not every shot that's affected [ the same as in the previous episode]

Last time I thought it was my 'operator' error so cussed at myself and just deleted the offending pics - and continued to use it till I got the vertical multicoloured line screen - and that's when I decided it had to go back as there was obviously a problem that wasn't me .

What this is I do not know - and if it's the kind of problem that's not always present , then it's far more difficult to identify and deal with . I just hope that it's something that can be dealt with easily - but I will always have this question mark over it now.

I've already had an e-mail back from SRS [ Chris is off today ] saying that they will discuss it with him tomorrow and see if it's possible to lend me a camera for my Trip to France at the beginning of June . It's a great offer - but I won't need it as I'll be taking the K-x , I just enjoy having the Optio for the time when I don't want to have to use the K-x eg shooting through a coach window when I spot something interesting

That looks like a banding issue, it's either Pentax or the sensor manufacturers fault.

Well - it had better be fixed . I ignored it last time thinking it was a user error and it progressed after a few good shots to a screen full of Multicoloured vertical lines , and this I took to be sensor problems.

When the camera was returned to me last week I was told that the lens had been calibrated and checked .

This was the first time I had really used it since the return - I took about 7 shots - and reviewing at the time , they were OK , I downloaded them and they were OK but when I went to review today - well you can see what I got.

If it should happen that you want an almost new P70 (red) then I bought one just a couple of weeks before I fell for the I-10.

An offer of £80 including shipping to the UK would secure it, if that helps!

Yeah I'm not sure how cost effective it would be to replace the sensor.
I'm with John and try to get a new camera an H90 is closer to the P70 and I found it a very nice camera to use when I tested it in the shop.
It isn't as sexy as the red P70 though.
That's of course if you want to stay with Pentax.

I'll need to wait for info coming back from Pentax - but thanks for the offer John - i do like the wee thing .

I realised that a permanent carry around camera - one that's genuinely pocket sized was a GOOD IDEA after my Freelander got hit by a car driver throwing open his door as I passed him . I was able thanks to my phone camera to take some snaps at the time - including ones of his car .

Once I got the car home I grabbed the K-x and took some really good shots which also showed that the Front nearside corner was totally blemish free - the wing was a mess

After many months I got a letter confirming that the other side had settled and paid up . I can't help feeling that my piccies had a lot to do with it Since then I have tried to have a decent camera with me at all times .

Hooray for Chris and SRS

Chris was looking at the sorry saga .

Like everyone he also thought the original was a sensor problem .

He was rooting about in the stores and hit on a little box - still sealed saying Pentax Optio 70 He says he was totally unaware of this one.

So we have an excellent resolution - the red one is coming North and the white one goes South .

I've been told [ not by Chris, I hastily add ] to change my name to techno-terminator

John - can you fix the name change for me please ?

It has to be admitted that 2 cameras died on me last year - and one of those was a sensor problem .

Well - the red one has appeared -- about an hour ago SRS are wonderful

All set up now and will get 'christened ' at some point today.

The red is quite a dark one and it's not as in your face as was the white one - that was veery very white and shiny and slippery .

This exudes class
