Northgate Street: 1972 vs 2013

Thought I'd show you the latest image from my project to combine present day shots I take with vintage images(or mash-up's as I call them). I've done 14 now and they are generating plenty of interest in Chester. I actually held an exhibition of them last weekend.

Here is a 1972 image of Northgate Street inside one I took a few weeks ago. This road now is a pedestrian area - you do not see traffic like this coming up the street anymore.

I must make acknowledgement to Chester Image Bank where the 1972 image used here was obtained. The photo I took was with the K-5 and Tamron 17-50:

Hi Deryn - yes the exhibition was last weekend as part of the Northgate Festival. Organisers wanted me to do Northgate specific 'mash-ups' and they were displayed in the old Butchers Shop on Upper Northgate Street during the day (Sun 26th May).

Great idea and really effective...you have your work in Handels Court Gallery now then Bob?

This was an image from the late 60s and I only kept the fire engine/first two station doors. Today the old fire station is Chez Jules restaurant, so I think it is quite interesting that the closest station door to the viewer (today one of the three main restaurant windows) is how it looks today to really aid the juxtaposition. It's very minimal and I like that about this.

Well - in a way, yes. The premises the exhibition was in was downstairs from the main gallery so I was on street level to be part of the festival. It was the Handles Court gallery people who wanted me to take part in the Northgate Festival - they were key organisers of it. So a massive thanks Simon for pointing me in their direction!

Blimey, I was definitely in and around Chester last Saturday. Shame I missed the exhibition.

I fully expect to be doing further exhibitions, as these images were received very well by the Chester people that popped in to see them. It was a wonderful experience.
