OK, so it's not in K mount, at least not yet, but on paper this looks pretty impressive.

they do f0.95 25mm for mft though. which does tempt.

It will be interesting to see if they return to doing K mount with the takeover of Pentax.

Why would it only work on film when it's designed for m43 / E mount? I know there's this theory that ultra wide apertures don't have quite the same benefit on digital, but the results from a 1.2 lens versus a 1.8 speak for themselves, so...

I thought there was a fundamental limitation of the K mount in that it's physically impossible to make lenses faster than f1.2 or so for it? IIRC the mounting just doesn't provide a big enough hole?

Presumably if it were possible then Pentax would have done it back in the days when they were huge (i.e. around the time of the 50 f1.2s!) If I recall correctly, this issue was the reason Canon decided to develop an entirely new lens mount for their autofocus cameras (ie the EF mount): their old FD mount couldn't do f0.95 either.

I'm a bit pissed off at their product survey.

the page and the lens is at least 2 years old and nothing happened in that time. i dropped an email with k mount suggestion long time ago.
it is also made for small sensor and shorter flange distance, and not suitable for dslr. nice to dream about it, but don't think it is possible and it will ever happen. we are doomed to 1.2

I was partly (because of the price) confusing it with the Leica one

I'm not sure about M43 cameras, but most cameras only see a maximim aperture of about f/1.8 from an exposure point of view (already covered on here). The image is different, because the camera can't convert a shot at f/1.2 to look like a shot at f/1.8 so it remains softer.

I notice no Canon or Nikon mounts are planned.

AFAIK the PK constraints are like this:

* Register is ~45.5mm; rear element *could* extend ~12mm; so let's say the minimum focal length without a retrofocal group is ~34mm.

* Lens throat is ~42mm wide; but mirrorbox is ~38mm wide, so there's probably no use in having a rear element wider than 38mm.

[I just measured my K50/1.2 -- rear element width is ~37mm; lens rear protrusion is ~10mm.]

Now, 34/38= 0.895 so a 34/0.9 *should* be possible, right? Or at least a 38/1 maybe. Or did I mung the numbers? I'm probably missing something. If such is possible, such would have been made, or at least prototyped, right?

And even if possible, would the optics be acceptable? I've built a superfast lens cheap, just by stacking three +10 dioptre 49mm closeup lenses. Now, +30dpt = 33.33mm and mounting them via 49-42mm step ring and M42-PK adapter, I get a ~34/0.9 lens that won't focus to infinity but *can* do closeups. Guess what images look like! [Hint: crappy.] I get slightly better IQ by stacking two of those +10dpt meniscus (uncorrected) strap-ons onto a corrected Raynox DCR-250 +8dpt adapter to produce a ~36/0.94 lens. But IQ still sucks.

My guess: an ultrafast PK lens *could* be made, but it wouldn't be usable. Ratz.
