I have the benefit of 3 different flash metering systems (P-TTL for newer AF lenses, Auto Mode for older non-coupling types, plus full manual). I have bounce , swivel, wide angle panel, catchlight panel, AF assist beam, Auto and manual flash head zoom, slow-speed and High Speed Sync, contrast control with multiple flashes if needed. I have optical wireless triggering built-in with the pop-up, or even more functions with a second hotshoe mounted gun as well. The flash can be powered from an accessory power pack, and the camera has a PC socket. I have a range of flash custom settings relating to firing control, white balance choices and lighting contribution when triggering.
I have all this included, for the money I paid for my camera and flash .... Not hard to see why I'm a happy Pentax user!
