I would recommend most strongly that you go out with some more experienced photographers and learn from being with people who know their equipment and can give you some gentle guidance in a real world situation. Also it may help to go along to a local meet, not necessarily a club, but you might be able to find a group of enthusiasts who would only be too pleased to help you.I am new to DSLR, is there anywhere I can get information about lens and words like aperature , what the differant f(nos) mean, ....cheers
I think you would learn far more this way than by reading literature and guides, but I'm not saying that the guides aren't useful too.
Whereabouts are you located?

DOn't take offence. 'Idiotsguide', 'dummiesguide' etc have become popular titles and series of book generally translating to 'starter guides' and aren't intended to be in any way offensive. This web site is just following that trend and it is a genuine article not a piss take. That said there are probably better articles and more comprehensive learn photography type books - that articel was just the first one I found which answered your question.I am unsure of the title , but will take a look.

Good luck,

I would recommend using this forum as much as possible, I have learnt a lot just from going searching through old threads. I also purchased a book called Understanding Exposure which I found to be very informative.

The manual is a very good place to start. Sit down with it in one hand and the camera in the other and just play about. And all of the above, spending time with other photography types is a good idea
One day you'll find, 10yrs have got behind you.
