As Karlo says ^^^^. When a £60 lens and a 12 year old camera can get results as good as this, why bother with the latest and greatest?

Expertly done, you’re shown what‘s possible with something which costs less than a tank of fuel.
I‘ve heard of stacking for macro but it‘s never crossed my mind to use it to capture the moon.

Stacking is widely used in astrophotography.
I have done stacks with 80 to 100 plus images.

What is the theory of it? Surely every last image will be on the same focal plane so where is the value?

Isn't it to reduce the random noise (from camera electronics, atmospheric abberations etc.) that appears in an individual image? Take an average of each pixel and what is in most or all images (stars, detail on the moon etc.) is reinforced, randomness is averaged out. This isn't the focus stacking used for macro (unless Spad has put his new toy on a bellows :twistedWhat is the theory of it? I mainly bought it for astro work but I ill try it on other stuff as well.
This evening was the first time I had an opportunity to fanny with it. There was a break in the clouds so I grabbed it, a K5 and a Telemax MC4 KAX x2 teleconverter. I mooched in to my back yard.
These came out and I must say I am quite pleased with them!
Image #1 - 400mm f9 1/1250 ISO800 13 images stacked and PP in PS
Image #2 - With x2 converter 400mm (800mm) f9 (f18?) 1/1250 ISO800 25 images stacked and PP in PS
