More than likely you haven't set the aperture on the lens to "A". As soon as you do that, all should be well.

That lens is probably the Pentax FA 80-320
Totally agree with John - and just in case you do not know what is meant by setting the aperture - there is a rotating ring close to the bottom of the lens - and a little marker on the lens barrel to show which aperture value you are set to - the aperture ring will have a series of numbers on it and to the left of these - a capital A with a small button near it - if you turn the dial to the A - you should feel it click in to place - if you want to move it off A - just press the little button then turn the dial
