Welcome Mandy!
I understand there's no battery pack for the K-x, but you should get 400-500 shots out of a set of typical NiMh rechargeables batteries (1900-2500 mAh), or over 1000 with non-rechargeable Lithium.
There is/was a firmware update that was supposed to improve matters (not sure whether it was battery life or battery life indicator), plus a lot of users swear by Sanyo Eneloop rechargeables in their K-x's.

Hi Mandy- Welcome.
I don't have a Kx but lots of other memebers do, so they would probably be better placed to give definitive advise.
I don't think LiIon batteries are available in AA, but I happy to be corrected
In the meantime I would suggest getting a couple of sets of NiMH AA batteries plus a charger.
Screwfix or Toolstation are two reasonably priced and likely places with outlets nationwide.
I use their Uniross 2500mAH in my flash gun/torch/radio etc etc.
regards
Bernard

Hi Mandy.
If you are looking for batteries, “Premier Ink & Photographic” is a good place to look.
Excellent customer service.
Don’t know which batteries you need, but the (GP Recyko) rechargeable are very good, I use them in a number of products including my Pentax flash.
Take care.

Hello Mandy.
Welcome.
I have Uniross Smart Charger + 4 x AA 2700mAh Performance Batteries (NiMH) + set of 4 same batteries; all this bought for £19.09 at Amazon, didn't count how many shots on fully charged set but think that easily should be around 500.
Firmware update didn't improve battery life indicator (not in my camera) but this is not big problem.
Enjoy forum.

G'day and welcome. Only AA batteries with the K-x I'm afraid, but the lithium disposables should last you around 1,000 shots! The (rechargeable) Sony Eneloops do me for between 600 - 800 shots , and it beats throwing batteries away into landfill. All this assumes you don't do too much 'chimping'...

Hi Mandy, and welcome to the K-x club. Still a few of us on here, The problem I found with the K-x was not the number of shots the batteries were taking. I use cheap Nimh from Aldi, still get 500 shots from a fully charged set. Problem I found was that, when you only partly use a battery, They dont really hold their charge. So either way you have to previously charge batteries everytime you want to use the camera. Which is a real pain. A lot of members have moved to the Kr for this reason. But all that said, the K-x is really a first class piece of equipment. That can hold its own against other far more expensive cameras. Love mine to bits.

Apparently “Which” magazine gave the (GP Recyko) a higher rating than (Eneloop).Eneloop or recycko ultra low discharge rechargeable aa batteries are best.
I have and use both makes and I find that the (GP Recyko), does give a better storage/use cycle than the (Eneloop).
But having said that both brands are very good at what they do, and I would not hesitate in recommending either brand.
Take care.

I'm actually Mandy and not really 'Sky' and it was me who posted this thread initially. Many thanks to you all for answering my question about the Kx batteries. Have taken notes on the info given. The delay in acknowledging your help is due to me being unable to get back into this site! It throws me out every time I put my login details in (and yes, they were correct). I just gave up and turned myself into someone else to say 'Thankyou'!!
The site is so interesting and full of help so I will try again as 'Sky' in future and see if Pentax likes her better!

I'm new to the Forum. Have had a Pentax Kx for about 18months. Photography was a completely new thing to me, wasn't too sure if I'd be able to take a decent photo but found that I love it anyway!
I have a query but not sure this is the right page to post it so will have a look around the site! Incase it's OK to ask it here, I am wondering if I can get a battery pack for my Kx to save me having to change the small ones so often?
Looking forward to learning from/with you all.
Mandy
