New studio

I'm so exited to let you in on my new plans.
I've bought a massive water tank on top of the hill at Mullion in Cornwall.
It's currently half full of water, which in itself is exiting and an amazing photo opportunity.
But I'll be drying it out and creating a huge studio/man cave. It's tennis court-size and 9 foot deep, with half walls and pillars creating a labyrinth with large voids.
Meanwhile on top, there are 360 views of the Lizard and Mounts bay.
It is situated on heathland designated AONB. So I will be documenting the flora and fauna over the seasons.
I hope to run photo tours and residential workshops ('Glamping' initially)

Wow. Sounds really exciting! Looks like it will create a superb arts space, as well as an amazing observation platform on top.

Gallery is a great idea
Anyway, thing is you're all invited
We've got a caravan hidden away up there. But we're making space for tents.
If anyone needs a Doom-like structure in various stages of wetness! Give me a shout

Sounds like a very imaginative project.
"It is situated on heathland designated AONB" Does this prevent you from building anything above ground level?

Not sure Barry. I'm stuck in Plymouth for a while, so there's no rush.
I think if we prove we can exist up there and contribute to the community - bringing in tourists (sensitively) and running little programs for school children, I think we can get it converted to residential. I'm in no rush to go upwards anyway, apart from maybe a discrete structure for taking in the view... and photographing the weather coming in over Mount's Bay
There's half an acre of ponds and hawthorn/gorse/scrub-land with loads of creatures to watch and er... photograph so lots of opportunity to diversify sensitively.
I feel a few little turf pods coming on, each with its own little bit of nature around it

This sounds absolutely fantastic Mark, so many possibilities...a massive darkroom, an enormous camera obscura, candle lit swimming pool, underground gallery. Sounds like it could also be a fantastic set or studio for some very unusual photography projects. Well found!

Do keep us posted on what you do with it,

very best wishes, Ronnie.

Looks very good, lots of potential. Situated between two airfields I believe, Culdrose and Predennack. Is it partly sunk into the ground or is it all above ground.

Exciting!!!

I'll drop in for a cup of tea with my kayak.

I think this makes you England's most southerly Pentax photographer.
There's a couple of us in Helston and one in Gweek.
Lurking is shirking.!

Yes, that's the one, I love hairyplanes, and gliding, so that's a nice bonus.
It's half in, and half above ground, so fairly simple to cut a hole in the side and start the conversion with a garage door, so I can hide my old Landie and kayaks.

Camera obscura - yes! man, that would be amazing. Pin hole in the south wall and just go wild with some paint and lots of paper
Brilliant...

Love that part of the world. I used to go on Holiday for several years in a row with my folks during the 1970s. I regret not being into photography back then

That's it Smeggy. What's Echelon and how did you narrow it down to the reservoir?
Yes, it's a beautiful place. Being a Cornish boy from West Penwith, I didn't really get over to the Lizard much (no need). So it's all new to me
Apart from the airfield - that's where I took my first glider flight.

What an amazing project! I look forward to seeing how it develops. We're planning a holiday down that way some time, perhaps in June, would love to come and see the studio.
