Hi just joined the forum, but been a keen pentax user since '86 with my P50, add to that 2 x ME Supers, an SL and an SP1000 But I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my first digital SLR, a K200D.
Any thoughts on this one and is anyone out there using any old K or M42 mount lenses on this model?
I look forward to any comments

Welcome to the form Gary...you can bet that there are K200D using the older mounts. I have a K-m or K2000 as is known here in Canada...I have used the older mounts on mine. I have just this past few weeks, recieved my first Auto lens...50/200mm...and I love it. Like you, I had a older manual model...K1000...now that I am digital....Ohhh I dare say I can never return to the land of film

Look forward to seeing some of your work

Welcome to the forum Gary.
I don't use the older mounts myself but you need to know which M42 adaptor to buy since most models aren't flushed so you lose infinte focus when using them, the original Pentax one is so far as I know one of the best.

You also might get some trouble with underexposure with older lenses but I'm sure you can work your way around that problem.

Hi Gary and welcome,

I got a K200D in November 2008 for a forthcoming safari having already used the K100D (my first SLR or DSLR) on a safari in 2007. Ufortunately it broke the day I was flying to Tanzania Howover, I did manage to get a 200D body replacement at a good price before leaving for the airport I was very impressed with it - it was a little more complex than the 100D and given that I had had very little practise with it (not unusual for me! I tend to take brand new unpractised cameras with me on safari and then learn how to use them there! Not the best thing to do I know but then I'm a bit thick like that!) I was extremely pleased with the results exspecially of my birds in flight ones which you can see in my portfolio. I'm by far not a expert user so you should manage some fantastc results.

Hi Gary,
Welcome to the forum , I'm a relatively new adopter to Pentax having come from Olympus. So sorry but I don't feel particularly qualified to comment on older manual lenses
Enjoy your K200D

Thank you all for your warm welcome,
I hope to add some pictures soon, and even more joy for me!! I have a LF Wista Field Camera that I am borrowing soon to play with...

Yes.. although the DSLR is arriving soon I wont be leaving film in all of its various formats or stop playing with ancient German folding cameras at any time in the future.

Hi Rob

RTFM.../?
Please explain, I am used to cameras with about 3 controls on (at the most!!) the K20D manual I printed off is about the size of a yellow pages
and just as inviting...
Yes!! I have a Centon 500mm, I bought for next to nothing at a Jessop's closing down sale, and have been pleasantly surprised messing about with it handheld, how you getting on with it? I will be digging out my 2 x converter and seeing what that does tomorrow
Cheers

Welcome Gary, hope you get the DSLR soon because I am sure you will enjoy it. You only have to look at the manual when you need to know something. Most items are duplicated and once you are used to how the manual works you will have long since have learnt to use the camera.

Gary, welcome to the forum.
I use a K200D, and I am very impressed with the IQ, the camera feels solid, weather and dust proof,I moved from Nikon and have no regrets at all.
I know I go on about my FA50mm, but it just amazes me with the IQ.
I hope you enjoy your Pentax

Hi goatboy

I use M42 Takumar; "K" and M lenses on my K10.

First you will need to change a menu setting to "allow use of aperture ring"

The m42 you can use in Av mode.

The "K" and M lenses you can use in m mode, pressing a button to get the camera to assign a shutter speed.

Give them a try and ask if you need further advice
