New roadmap?

MZ7, 30, 50, 60 also. The latter three in fact cannot use the aperture ring and the lens has to be set to A (hence the FA-J series of lenses without an aperture ring)

As Beakynet says all other bodies which have program or shutter priority mode (super A onwards) can use the lens but only in program or shutter priority mode as there is no way to set the aperture. This also means no manual mode.

There is something odd about those images ...

If it was real, why would the person put fingers in the way to cover the lens images?

Why not show the date of the RoadMap?

Why not a full screen shot of the RoadMap?

or download and store the image?

If that is a true roadmap, how much would you expect a 400mm F4 to sell for?

Has Pentax fired the entire marketing department except for one person who feeds foras like this with hints, rumours, blurry pics etc? I know Pentax can not be blamed interely (can't stop people dreaming about new stuff) but I would like a bit more official communication from them. Basically, what are the plans for the future. Now, they create a lot of buzz but also uncertainty as if anybody at Pentax know what the f*** is going on.

I bet: You will not see a Pentaxrep going out saying - officially: "That 50 mm 1.0 no way that's not going to happen" or "Yes, planned for realese ealy 2010. Rather they will keep it hanging up there...

Fingers covering the images of the lenses... hmmmm

I could knock up my own roadmap with Photoshop and produce the same kind of image

The fingers bother me too,
I'm not convinced (at the moment)

I think there are maybe only two Pentax 35mm film bodies that can use lenses with no aperture ring, the MZ-6 (ZX-L in the US) and the *ist. If there are any others they'll be late in the MZ/ZX series. Even the flagship MZ-S can't set an aperture from the body and so can't use the aperture ring-less lenses.
I have used my DA*50-135 on my MZ5n with no problems. Just can't use aperture priority, Auto or Shutter Priority only. In fact any camera compatible with PKA lenses will be able to operate DA lenses, just not in Aperture Priority mode.
IIRC you will be shooting wide open in these A & Tv modes and the lense must have a max> aperture of f5.6.

I suppose what I should have written was " . . . only two Pentax 35mm film bodies that can fully utilize lenses with no aperture ring . . ."

Of course a K mount lens will fit any K mount body and you'll get some kinf of an exposure, but the aperture will be wide open.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for this lens, if you look at the old 400mm Pentax primes they were F2.8 or F5.6, IMHO if they do release a 400mm prime, I think it would be F5.6.

same thoughts here Matt, but still it's fun to speculate about it.

It's of course great marketing to show blurry photos of up coming products, simply getting everyone a bit "arroused", it's like for play so to say.
Don't ask me about why i'm using sexual terms but you get me now at least

A 50mm 1.0 would be imposible, the rear element of the lens needs to have a larger diameter then the mount itsself.
On a K mount 1.1 is the very limit so very very hard to construct so that's why we have a 1.2 lens.

We could see a 35mm f/1 of course and I would be very happy with such lens since the DOF would be a bit more wider then with a 50mm, so more usefull.

Is the mount that Canon uses that much bigger in diameter? Canon had a f/1.0 lens.

Yes the mount that Canon has is one of the biggest, 54 mm internal.
Pentax K-mount 45.46 or 45.50 mm.

Picked form pentaxforums.com
Regarding an f/1.0 lens from Pentax: The 50mm f/1.4 has a rear element ~29mm in diameter, giving it an area of 660.5 sq.mm. The 50mm f/1.2 has a rear element diameter of ~35.5mm, giving it an area of 989.8 sq.mm. These numbers make sense: f/1.2 is 1/2 stop faster than f/1.4, so the area of its rear element should be 1.5 times larger; and it is.

A 50mm f/1.0 lens would have a rear element twice the area of the f/1.4, which would mean its diameter would have to be square root of 2 larger. That gives us ~41mm. Take any K mount lens and measure that width; you'll see that the aperture lever would have to be removed in order to have a rear element that large and the glass would be very near the edge of the mount.

I wouldn't take that quote as being accurate as many lenses these days tread new optical territory.

Who would need a 50mm f1 lens? Well I know someone who uses one, and quite a beast it is. It isn't a Pentax though.

Isn't the largest aperture determined by the ratio between the front and the rear element?

Well there was a Zeiss 50mm f/0.7 lens which used some trickery to achieve f/0.7.

Interesting text: World's fastest lens

Quote:

The engineering looks eloquent to me. The key idea is to make a supersized 70mm f/1 that lights a much larger image circle, and then design a “condenser” that brute-forces your way to 50mm f/0.7 by shortening the focal length and condensing the light. Basically it’s adding a 0.7x teleconverter that gives 1 f-stop.
Shouldn't Pentax be able to pull off a similar trick?
