No doubt you'd be able to get adaptors to allow K mount lenses to be used, but they'd obvioulsy increase the distance the lens projects from the front of the camera.

But still it could be a K-mount that they would use for the special lenses and that you need extension to place Normall lenses on the right distance. If so those extension tubes might become quite cheap and maybe handy for macro use on normall camera's hefty1 wrote:

Gwyn has showed us that there might be 3 new pentax's camera coming really soon. We of course thought about the K30 and K300 but what about the 3th one?
Could it be that Pentax tags along with samsung and bring out also a version of that camera (the NX)?
They said in an interview this:
Quote:
The new Micro Four Thirds standard is seen as both a potential problem but also a potential opportunity. Panasonic’s Lumix DMC-G1 is seen as a direct challenge to Pentax’s entry-level DSLRs, undercutting the new Pentax K-m in size if not price. On the other hand, Mr Iue believes that “the G1 could open up a new market which will help Pentax and the industry as a whole”, a sentiment which has also been echoed by Olympus and Sony in our Photokina meetings. Mr Iue went on to comment that Pentax are very open-minded about the possibility of joining the Micro Four Thirds system, with the company free to join any system that they like at the present time.
Let's wait and see what happends

Can you imagine the confusion that would cause? Would we have NXDA lenses that would suit the reduced mount-to-sensor distance, but be useless* on K*D cameras? I would strongly suspect (and hope) that it's a new mount. But still it could be a K-mount that they would use for the special lenses and that you need extension to place Normal lenses on the right distance.

* I realise these lenses would actually turn into pseudo-macro lenses when mounted on a K*D, but they wouldn't be the most practical option.

Well yes I see the confusing but if you name the Lenses differently I don't see the problem. It's the same that most DA lenses won't work on fullframe. Can you imagine the confusion that would cause? The bonus you have is that accessories make for the K-mount will be usable (extension tubes, tele converters, etc.).
Those lenses make for the Micro system needs to project a wider image then DA lenses so maybe they also work on full frame. With some luck FA lenses also work on Micro without an adapter. You wouldn't be able to focus as close, I only wander by how much.

it's easy, you just have to make like Canon did with the EF-S mount.
EF lenses fit on an EF-S camera, but EF-S lenses don't fit on an EF camera.
In this case all you have to do is make the camera mount electrically and optically but not physically K compatible, then supply an adaptor with the camera which allows mounting K lenses a bit further away.
It would be a smart move for Samsung, since they have already stated it isn't u4/3 mount and they don't have an existing lens base of their own. They already have a relationship with Pentax and could sort of borrow the K mount lens base while they get their native lens mount established.

you don't have to be mad to post here
but it does help

If it will mount K-mount lenses it would be awesome. An adapter would be very easy to produce as all it would need to do is set the register distance to 43mm to take K lenses.

Have you noticed how many questions there are on here about which lenses working with which cameras? Introducing another type with the same mount, that didn't work at all with the current range, would be ludicrous.Well yes I see the confusing but if you name the Lenses differently I don't see the problem.

Teleconverters wouldn't work without an adaptor to put them the same distance away from the sensor that they are designed for.The bonus you have is that accessories make for the K-mount will be usable (extension tubes, tele converters, etc.)

Again, no, because of the distance from lens to sensor would be wrong. Those lenses make for the Micro system needs to project a wider image then DA lenses so maybe they also work on full frame. Sorry to keep dismissing your suggestions Stefan, but from a practical point of view keeping the same lens mount just isn't practical and I really can't see it happening. If it does I would say it would be a monumental mistake.
As Mongoose says, as long as there is an adaptor that would allow K mount lenses to be mounted on the new mount, that's great. There's no real benefit to using the K mount on this new camera.

Have I not read somewhere that Samsung are developing their new cameras independently. Would this not reduce the possibility of continuing with K mount?

Don't be sorry Dan, i'm quite a dreamer and don't think very practical sometimes. When looking back at it it isnt so good so you're right.
About FA lens on such a micro camera though, why wouldn't it work?
Of course the distance is wrong but it's okay to place a lens further away with extension tubes so I don't see why it wouldn't work the other way around.
Ah well whatever, they will probable make the mount smaller so that they can make the lenses smaller too, just like they did with Micro four thirds.

If the focus travel was long enough, I suppose it might work, but you would lose any sort of close focusing, so a 50mm lens might focus between 50feet and infinity for example (that's just a rough guess, it would depend on the mount to sensor distance). But for most of its range, it would be focusing way beyond infinity.About FA lens on such a micro camera though, why wouldn't it work?

Not only that, I suspect that any new mount for a micro APS camera will be all electronic, like the micro 4/3rds. This means that any adaptor that could work with Pentax KAF lenses will need electro-mechanical converters built in to operate the AF and aperture. This would be a fairly expensive and complex unit, that would be neither cheap or small.Anvh wrote:

I'm almost certain that if it actually does come to fruition it will be a proprietary mount and those hoping to use their Pentax lenses on it will be disappointed.
I think the Pentax/Samsung co-habitation is all but over. I don't think Hoya are keen to let it continue. Time will tell, but I suspect I'm not far off the mark. Personally, I also think that the Samsung announcement is about 80% posturing!

Same as the Nikon P90.
Infact the whole camera is very much the same from the look of it.
