Hi everyone. I am a new member, and there were so many welcoming responses on my intro thread, I have been persuaded to post a few pics to see what people think. I have posted a few threads here just to seperate things out a bit by subject. I hope that is ok.

Third shot I think is the best, I like the mysterious feel about it, you ask yourself questions about it. The first is far to close a crop for me, and you cannot see the babys face. Cannot tell what the third is at all, way out of focus. And the last is spoilt by the flare.

Thanks for the feedback

I agree about the first one, but I was constrained by my brother hating having his picture taken, and refusing unless I promised to partially crop his face like that. Would have been nice if the baby's face was visible, but at 3 days old, I was taking any shot I could get

Second is a shadow falling over a grave stone. I liked the poor focus and heavy grain - kind of gave it an old zombie film feel for me - well that was the thinking anyway!

Third I really like, I just wish I had used a tripod so it would have been a bit sharper. I was experimenting with not carrying around all the kit, and having just the camera and the 18-55 lens.

The last one I also really like. Possibly the large amount of flare improves it in my eyes. I think this might be because it adds to the sense of panic, which was very real. The incoming wave was unexpected and large. About a second after taking the shot I was standing in the sea halfway up to my knees!

I also think the 1st and 3rd are too soft. If they looked deliberately out of focus that would be one thing, but unfortunately these two don't.

The 2nd is not bad, the softness looks deliberate. I can see where you're coming from with the zombie comment

The 4th is my favourite. Mainly for the great expression and posture, although I do also like the massive amounts of flare you've somehow captured (at night?). I think her head is a bit too close to the top edge though.
