Ephotozine isn't a very good forum for me.
I like where my fellow Pentax users are coming from, and would rather hear about their experiences with off-brand kit from them, and in relation to the Pentax gear they use. Using non-Pentax kit doesn't mean you're not a Pentax User!
Alphamount World (are they scared of saying Sony?) and Pentax Forums both have this feature and nothing 'bad' has happened to them!

Correction: I put up a thread today of fantastic photos, which happened to be taken by Nikon cameras, since it was a Nikon Competition. Nikon was a sideline to want the post was about, not the central topic.Gwyn put a thread up today about Nikon.
No discussion about the make - just wanted to share some great photos.
I sometimes find things like that, and want to share them. I link, because a) they are copyrighted, and b) they are not Pentax photos.

I actually couldn't find anything saying you couldn't post things about other manufactures in the Terms of Use so just go ahead and talk about your rangefinders or Nikon D7000.

But it was about a Nikon competition like you said and that was relevant in the discussion.Correction: I put up a thread today of fantastic photos, which happened to be taken by Nikon cameras, since it was a Nikon Competition. Nikon was a sideline to want the post was about, not the central topic.
Some say it wasn't allowed to post photos of other makes here, well you just made a thread full of them.
It's how you word things and what your intentions are.

But is linking to them not the same as posting?
The only way to get a photo really on this site is to upload it in the gallery here for the rests is all linking that you do.
There are no rules to prohibit showing photos from other makes here.
Only the gallery and the my photo section and competition is Pentax only

Linking to photos from other websites is allowed yes. Actually putting the photos on the forum, especially under my photos is not.
Since the photos in the link are copyrighted I do not have the right to show them here anyway.
If the photos are worth a look why should we be limited to linking to only Pentax photos? We'd not have many to link to .

But linking or showing them is the same thing right?
You only put photos on this forum by uploading them to the gallery.
If you show a photo on the forum you need to put the link/address here.
I don't see that the code (img)(/img) make a difference in this matter.

It would be no big thing. We are first and foremost Pentax users, and quite rightly 99% of the site should be of, and about Pentax. But a little section where other makes of camera, especially classic film cameras, could be talked about and shown, would not really dilute or corrupt the forum. - Think of it as a little photographic 'cottaging' area, where we can indulge our perverse, non pentax appetites without outraging the morals of all the other 'respectable' members.
No man is worth his salt, who has not been banned from at least one Forum, and two Flickr groups.

Don't forget we have all those other things on ePHOTOzine, which many/most of us are members of as well.
Best regards, John

er.... from the feel of this thread, I don't think that's true.
I also realised while I was downstairs what's going on.
This is a local. It's a quiet pub, where most everyone is known - at least to the barman and several regulars. There are no strict rules, but a certain amount of decency, stiff upper lip and obsequiousness are shown and expected - foreigners get a break because they don't know any better.
On any given subject some know more than others and arguments will happen - but normally the arguers will buy one another beer again and life goes on. Sometimes strangers come in for a pint or five and ask silly questions - the questions get answered and sometimes they'll stick around for a while.
Some want to come back in, even if they've moved away, but it's an effort, as they appreciate the knowledge and people they've got to know.
Changing the furniture or the bar layout?
"you can't come in here, mate, you don't live 'raaand 'ere! hop it!"
I think the simile works quite nicely.

I miss the old forum before we had the last makeover. The whole thing was more personal, you could always find everything, we still had a real magazine, beer was 1/2p a pint with a pentax voucher and we never argued......

As a small friendly community we did not need pictures to portray our inner beings to the whole world...

Already tried to open things up saying it's also a photography forum but that didn't help... only got a reply that for general photography chat you can go to ephotozine
You just need to word things right and everything will be fine though
Gwyn put a thread up today about Nikon.
